A Treacherous Journey

Three chairs sat empty on the first day of teaching. Three of our Ambo students called Pastor Fikadu to say they would be a day late. They asked that we pray for their protection.

Their normal journey consisted of 12 hours walking through the bush and over mountains. Then public transportation (also dangerous) carries them 3-5 more hours down the dusty road.

But this day, a rebel group was fighting the Ethiopian government. So, these young pastors had to cross a conflict zone on foot in order to get to the training site in Ambo. They counted 22 dead bodies on the road, some civilian, and ended up hiding in cave overnight to avoid the crossfire.

These students journeyed two days and literally risked their lives to learn how to preach and teach the Word of God. How humbling! May we all be that hungry for God’s Word!
